Sky Bet League One Side Peterborough United have been dealt a significant blow ahead of a busy week on the pitch for Darren Ferguson’s side, with captain Hector Kyprianou’s injury coming back as worse than first thought, confirming he will be sidelined for a significant period of time.
The Former Leyton Orient academy product was absent from Peterborough’s last-gasp 2-1 victory over Alex Revell’s Stevenage at Saturday lunchtime, a game in which The Posh won courtesy of a dramatic 94th-minute winner from the very much in-form Kwame Poku. That result has left The Posh in 14th place after 10 matches, a reading that needs to be improved for a club that is desperate to win promotion back to the championship.
But as reported by The Peterborough Telegraph earlier today, manager Darren Ferguson has confirmed that Kyprianou, who started 40 league matches last season as The Posh finished fourth in League One, will be unavailable for selection in the coming weeks:
“He felt a twinge in his hamstring after 10 minutes at Birmingham and he really should have come off straight away, but he tried to carry on and made the problem worse. If he’d come off straight away he would probably have missed two weeks, but it’s a bad one and now he will be out for 7-8 weeks.”
Most League One clubs are off now for the international break but Darren Ferguson’s side remain in action this week, as they host Stevenage again in midweek looking for a similar result – this time in the EFL Trophy. That match takes place before the visit of Rotherham United on Saturday another side who will want to secure promotion to The Championship but The Millers have had a difficult start to life in League One, currently sitting 17th in the league with only three wins secured so far under Steve Evans.
The Cypriot international joins a sizeable injury list including teammates Jadel Katongo, and Chris Conn-Clarke, and will be looking to get back into the action as soon as possible as he is a real core part of the spine of Ferguson’s side and is someone who very rarely unavailable for his side.
When asked about his captain’s absence the well-respected manager was quick to highlight the significance of Kyprianou’s absence:
“It’s a blow for him and for us, but as always we will just get on with things. We’ve been down to the bare bones a bit this season and it’s becoming more of a challenge.”
So not the news Peterborough United wanted ahead of a very challenging October, including fixtures against Wycombe, Bolton and Blackpool, they’ll be hoping to have Hector Kyprianou and his leadership skills back as soon as possible.

This is undoubtedly a monumental blow for Peterborough United to have a player of such importance sidelined for a significant amount of time. His presence in the middle of the park will be what they miss the most, on average he won 6 duels per 90 mins last season, recovering the ball 4 times per 90 mins as well.
The Posh will be hoping the return of Ryan De Havilland can boost their midfield as well as the impressive Archie Collins, and fill in their captain’s shoes with pride and determination to turn their bad fortunes around and strive towards the top six.
