‘We Can’t Ask Any More’ – Key Lincoln City Figure Discusses Latest Win

Lincoln City assistant manager Tom Shaw has shared his pleasure at his side’s 2-0 victory at Cambridge United this afternoon, via the club’s official website.

The Imps set a new club record of 13 away league matches without defeat at the Abbey Stadium, a run stretching back to January 1st and a defeat at Blackpool.

City is on a run of just three defeats in 27 matches, a spell that saw them get agonisingly close to a playoff spot last season and has them sitting third behind only Wrexham and Birmingham City this term.

The victory in Cambridgeshire was sealed by two substitutes, Freddie Draper and Bailey Cadamateri leaving Shaw delighted with the qualities on display.

“There were some lovely traits within our group to win this game away from home. Cambridge have some threats and we knew we’d have to show some grit, resilience and determination. There were then a couple of bits of real quality for the goals.”

The 37-year-old was full of praise for the way the players approached the game and the way the goals were taken.

“It was not far off a complete away performance. We’re delighted with all the lads and got our rewards on the day.”

“There were moments where we showed some high-end technical work. We can’t ask any more of what the players have given.”

Shaw reserved praise for the way the supporters help the players, saying, “We feel the energy from the supporters, from the warm-up onwards they got behind the players. The lads felt it, we started brightly and had a really good afternoon.”

There was some less-than-favourable news for the visitors as Ben House was forced off inside the opening five minutes after a collision with home goalkeeper Reyes.

It was House’s replacement Draper who opened the scoring after 25 minutes before Cadamateri bagged his first for the club to seal the win and the club’s unbeaten away record.

Writer’s View

Lincoln looked fairly comfortable against a struggling Cambridge side who offered little threat in the first half.

It was a controlled performance from Michael Skubala’s men with impressive performances from players such as Tendayi Darikwa and the substitute Draper.

Skubala’s formula is certainly working as his side continues their impressive run of form. Whether they have enough to keep pace with sides like Wrexham and Birmingham City remains to be seen but they will certainly be looking to mount a playoff challenge once more.
