MK Dons Launch Investigation Over Abusive Social Media Posts From Club Spokesman

MK Dons have not started the season as they would have hoped, and after the news at the beginning of the season that they had new owners, they are now under scrutiny after a series of historical Twitter posts emerged from one of their lead spokesmen.

The posts were written by Moath Al Manayes, and included several misogynistic, racist and homophobic slurs about footballers and their teams.

The account has since been deleted but did have Al Manayes as being “owner’s representative at Milton Keynes Dons”. Although it is believed that he is not under direct employment at the club, this will still be an embarrassing situation for the new ownership which is fronted up by Fahad Al Ghanim who is in charge until a new chief executive is in place.

City AM has reported that a spokesperson for MK Dons said: “MK Dons are aware of a social media post featuring historic comments allegedly made by the owner’s representative Moath Al Manayes.

“The new ownership group are reviewing the matter. No further comment will be made at this time.”

The social media posts takes aim at Premier League players as well as celebrities. Dating from 2009 to 2019, the torrent of abuse will be a big blow to the new Kuwaiti regime.

It was only a month ago that Pete Winkleman helped orchestrate the hugely controversial move of Wimbledon FC to Milton Keynes. This news will be a shock to those who sealed the takeover of the club that currently sits in the lower half of League Two

At the time of the handover, Winkleman was buoyant. “These are powerful people with global interests. Football is a global and expensive business.

“I didn’t build this stadium to own a football club in the lower leagues. I’d rather not own the club, and see MK Dons in the Premier League.”

In the modern age of social media sometimes past comments can come back to haunt you. Then again, if someone needs to abuse and create hatred this should be censored immediately. The fact that the posts were made public in the first place is of course another issue, but now, having resurfaced they pour shame and embarrassment to those involved.

MK Dons on Saturday lunchtime, visit the club that was created when they moved almost 25 years ago, AFC Wimbledon. So the timing of this couldn’t have been any worse as the two sets of supporters have enough axes to grind about each other’s situation from the past.
