Leeds United are reportedly interested in a deal for Swiss wing-back Isaac Schmidt as Daniel Farke’s side look to seal deals ahead of deadline day.
The Yorkshire club have been searching for defenders across the window, with right-back being a key focus point. Jayden Bogle has joined from rivals Sheffield United on a four-year deal, letting Cody Drameh leave to Hull City days later.
Whilst their business may not be done following rumours Max Wober could still depart to Borussia Monchengladbach, Farke has reportedly targetted St. Gallen’s Isaac Schmidt to add depth at full-back. The 24-year-old has been involved in his side’s Europa Conference League qualifying matches, and play Trabzonspor in their decisive play-off round tie.
According to The Daily Telegraph’s Mike McGrath, Leeds are close to an agreement with the Swiss side over Schmidt. His contract at Espen runs until 2026, having joined from Lausanne Sport in 2021 and has racked up over 100 appearances for St Gallen, scoring six times and recording as many assists.
The wing-back is versatile on both wings and can play in defensive midfield, offering a vital role should injuries befall the squad throughout the season. Junior Firpo and Sam Byram can both play on the left flank, with newcomer Bogle the only choice on the right.
A move for the Swiss player does put into question United’s pursuit of Bournemouth’s Max Aarons, but that deal seems to have slowed as a result of The Cherries’ asking price. United’s outgoings does highlight the need for other parts of the squad to be reinforced before the window shuts tomorrow night.
Leeds have been inconsistent in their opening games so far, only claiming their first win of the season against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough. Despite that, they still remain sixth in the Championship ahead of a Yorkshire derby against Hull this weekend.

Leeds United seem to have bailed on their move for Max Aarons, instead targeting Isaac Schmidt. His involvement in European competition may bring this move down to the wire but it seems that Daniel Farke has found an alternative full-back to the former Norwich City man amidst the financial demands Andoni Iraola’s team are looking for in a permanent deal.
The Whites have been pillaged of their best talent this window and will desperately need to replace that over the next 48 hours. A midfielder and another defender may be on the shopping list, with rumours swirling around Aarons’ teammate in Phillip Billing. The Dane was not used in the game against Newcastle United and that could point to an exit before tomorrow night.
