Borussia Dortmund Youngster On Verge Of Championship Switch

Championship newcomers Portsmouth have today agreed a deal to bring young Borussia Dortmund talent Abdoulaye Kamara to Fratton Park.

The 19-year-old defensive midfielder left French side Paris Saint-Germain’s academy in the summer of 2021, before securing a move to BVB. However, he failed to make a first-team appearance for the club.

The Guinean talent has been learning his trade in the third tier of German football, playing for Dortmund’s second team for the last three years and has 48 appearances under his belt, scoring two goals in that time too.

Kamara also featured in the side’s opening fixture of the season and got himself on the scoresheet, rounding off the goalscoring in a 3-0 victory over Unterhaching.

Pompey’s return to the Championship has got off to a bright start, with an enthralling encounter on the opening day at Elland Road ending in a 3-3 draw to secure John Mousinho’s side a point. This was followed by a hard-fought point against former Premier League side Luton Town, it would seem as though most supporters would have definitely taken two points from the opening two games if it was offered to them at the start of the season.

But as reported by Fabrizio Romano on X today, it looks as though Kamara will be making the switch to England this summer, stating that a medical has already been completed and a permanent transfer has already been agreed, making him the ninth signing of Portsmouth’s summer transfer window.

Writer’s View:

Portsmouth already have an abundance of options in central midfield with the likes of Marlon Pack, Andres Dozzell, Owen Moxon, and Ben Stevenson at their disposal, but as we know in this division a big squad size can prove absolutely crucial to a team’s performance throughout the season, with the tight fixture schedule and the chance that players will pick up injuries and suspensions.

Overall, the signing of Abdoulaye Kamara could be one for the future as far as Portsmouth are concerned, but they are getting a player who could certainly prove himself at Championship level, but ultimately was deemed just not quite there yet when it came to playing for the first team of Borussia Dortmund.
