According to the Football Insider, Wolverhampton Wanderers have set their sights on Sheffield United centre-back Anel Ahmedhodzic.
Wolves are in the market for a new centre-back after the departure of Max Kilman, who left Molineux to join West Ham United. Kilman had made over 150 appearances for the Wanderers at centre-back before West Ham swooped in for him this summer. He joined the Hammers for a reported fee of £47.5 million. The former captain has not yet been replaced, with Wolves choosing to strengthen in other positions instead.
Wolves are said to be testing the waters around Ahmedhodzic, we joined the Blades in the summer of 2022. United signed him from Swedish side Malmo FF, for a fee believed to be around £5 million. The 25-year-old has been a staple of the Blades’ defence in recent seasons, making 74 appearances, including 31 appearances in the Premier League last season, chipping in with nine goals and two assists in all competitions. The Bosnia and Herzegovina international, who was born in Sweden, featured regularly last season, as Sheffield United suffered relegation in the Premier League. For Wolves, his performances have been enough for them to potentially swoop in on him.
Despite recent transfer links away, he has started two of two games in the Championship, with Chris Wilder’s side getting off to a relatively good start. The Blades kept a clean sheet against Preston North End in a 2-0 win but struggled against Queens Park Rangers, coming away with a point.
It has been a busy window for Wilder and Co, with 10 players arriving at Bramall Lane, with the same amount departing. They have already lost the likes of Wes Foderingham, Daniel Jebbison and William Osula to Premier League sides, and will be hoping Ahmedhozic does not follow the same path.
Wolves started their season with a 2-0 loss to Arsenal, a match where Yerson Mosquera and Toti Gomes were paired at the back alongside Matt Doherty and Rayan Ait Nouri.
Ahmedhozic has made his debut for both Sweden and Bosnia and Herzegovina, but chose to represent the latter, and has since made 24 international appearances. He is contracted at Sheffield United until the summer of 2026, so it would require a fee for him to depart Bramall Lane.
Wolves have also been linked with Norwich City winger Jonathan Rowe, who may join the Birmingham-based club before the window shuts. This is according to Darren Witcoop.
The summer transfer window slams shut on August 30th, with many clubs rushing to get deals over the line before the deadline.

With Sheffield United’s business so far, it is obvious they are looking to bounce straight back up to the Premier League themselves. The club have backed Wilder on the transfer market, with ambitious signings coming in left, right and centre. Time is on their side here, and if Wolves want to snatch the 25-year-old from under their nose it might take quite a hefty fee. The question is will Wolves cave into the time pressure, or will they look to pursue other targets elsewhere.
For Ahmedhozic, a move back up to the Premier League may be tempting. However, the Wanderers may struggle this season, with the strength of teams around them. They have already lost key players such as Pedro Neto, and it’s fair to say that if they struggle with the same amount of injuries as last season, they will be in danger of themselves dropping down to the Championship.
Wolves are looking to sign one of the best defenders in the Championship, which as previously mentioned might come with a hefty price tag. However, with their recent departures, it is clear that Wolves will have money to spend in the remaining time left in the market.
