Queens Park Rangers Want To Sign Premier League Prospect

Queens Park Rangers are hoping to secure the loan services of Liverpool left-back, Owen Beck, as they have recently registered their interest.

Having featured 28 times for Dundee FC in two separate loan deals in the past two seasons, Beck is now being linked with a Championship move to QPR. The Welshman has only played once for his parent club and could be looking to prove a point, as Liverpool head towards a new era with Arne Slot at the helm.

Kenneth Paal, who has been a mainstay in the Rangers backline over the recent seasons, could be moved on by the London side if the 27-year-old refuses to sign a new contract ahead of its expiration next summer. This will leave a gaping hole in the full-back position, which may be temporarily filled by the arrival of the Liverpool youngster.

In a stint at Bolton Wanderers in the 2022/23 season, the Wales under-21 international featured just nine times, hinting at the need for further development to compete at that level. QPR could now look to bring Beck in for a second chance and to occupy a position with a huge question mark surrounding it.

In an interview with West London Sport, Marti Cifuentes has openly suggested that players like Paal cannot be afforded to leave the club, so the potential capture of the Premier League youngster may depend entirely on this ongoing situation.

“We as a club cannot afford to have players that are in the last year of their contract and still being an important asset for the club.

“So we need to find this balance between continuity and keeping good health (financially).

“Ken is a very good player. I think he has been showing that since my arrival and I’m very happy with him.”

If a contract cannot be agreed, this seems like a very difficult decision that can only be temporarily fixed for the new season. However, Paal leaving would create an opportunity for a deal to be struck with Beck; this would offer great first-team experience for the 21-year-old, but Rangers would lose a vital asset.

If the Suriname international does agree to sign a new deal, it may be likely that the prospect of being limited to substitute appearances could put the Liverpool youngster off a move, and may look elsewhere in the league or in the foreign market.
