Ex-Birmingham City Standout Secures Top Flight Move

Former Birmingham City striker Che Adams has officially been unveiled as Serie A side Torino’s latest signing.

It’s quite a change of scenery for the 28-year-old having spent the entirety of his senior career so far in England. However that’s not to say he will not succeed with the Italian side, with the striker proving his worth in front of goal over a number of seasons.

Torino would finish the Serie A season in ninth, missing out on any European football as a result. It was however a slight improvement on their 10th placed finish the season prior and they’ll be hoping to progress once again.

Adams could well help them to do just that and he was set to play in the Premier League had he chosen to sign a new deal with Southampton. His 15 goals and 4 contributions for the Saints last term in the Championship would help them to promotion via the play-offs but the Scotsman, who represented his country at Euro 2024, has opted for a move elsewhere.

The striker does have Premier League experience on his cv already with the Saints scoring 20 times in 96 top flight appearances. He’ll be hoping that he can now translate his form in front of goal over to Italy.

It is fair to say that the 28-year-old has taken every step-up in his career in his stride. After initially impressing for Sheffield United in League One, Adams would seal himself a £2 million move to Birmingham City back in the summer of 2016.

For Blues, he’d improve each season and in the 2018/19 term, arguably had his productive year. Putting up 22 goals and 5 assists that season, the striker would rightfully earn himself a Premier League move to the Saints, pocketing Birmingham a nice £14 million in the process, proving to be a great deal of business.

There is no fee involved in his move to Torino, given his contract was up at St Mary’s this summer. A three-year deal shows that the Scotsman is in it for the long haul and he could well reach new heights in Italy.

Having at one point looked likely to be joining Wolves, Southampton will be happy that they will not be facing off against Adams next season. Although they would’ve liked to have retained the striker, at least he isn’t playing in the same division.

The 28-year-old once again proved himself as one of the very best in the Championship last term yet he now must show he can do that in the top flight in another country. Although maybe not expected to be Il Toro’s focal point of goals, Adams could have a productive year if settling in and it could be a move which works out very well for both him and the club.
