Former Birmingham City loanee Jay Stansfield is wanted by a whole host of Championship sides on loan ahead of the forthcoming season according to a post on Twitter (X) by journalist Darren Witcoop.
The striker is now back with his parent club Fulham following a season-long loan with Blues last term, a year where he was arguably their standout player. Stansfield would collect every single award possible during the club’s end of season awards evening, scooping all five for the men’s team.
Despite only being a loan player, the 21-year-old became Blues’ talisman and did everything he could to keep them up. Despite falling just short, it is clear that the striker has an incredibly exciting future ahead of him.
For Birmingham he’d put up 12 goals and two assists in the second tier last term, progressing on his loan spell in League One with Exeter City the season prior. During his time with the Grecians, Stansfield would net nine times and supply a further seven assists, which included a hat-trick in the final game of the season against Morecambe.
It is rather clear that he is one to watch for the future, and his last two loan spells certainly emphasise that. The striker may well head out on loan once more next term, with journalist Darren Witcoop reporting that the England Under-21 international is wanted by a host of Championship clubs.
Despite potentially now being able to knock on the door of the first team at Craven Cottage, another season out on loan may well be best for the striker’s progression. Just 21, and with a contract with Fulham until the summer of 2027 it is highly unlikely that Stansfield will be going anywhere permanently.
The Whites certainly have an asset on their hands and already valued at £3 Million by Transfermarkt, Stansfield should have a number of successful years ahead of him.
Writer’s View
It comes as no surprise whatsoever that a number of Championship clubs are interested on taking the striker on loan for the season. Perhaps a club with clear promotion ambitions may be the best move for Stansfield, as he continues his ascendency.
Although there’s an argument that he could be utilised now off of the bench at Craven Cottage, for his career consistent minutes will be most beneficial. Having adapted incredibly well to a change of scenery at both Birmingham and Exeter, there is no reason as to why another loan move will harm his development.
Whichever Championship club does get their hands on him will be incredibly lucky and after proving himself in the second tier last term, Stansfield could have a monster-year in front of goal.
