Former MK Dons Standout Wanted By Top Flight Side

Former MK Dons midfielder Scott Fraser is wanted by Scottish Premiership side Dundee, according to a report from the Daily Record’s transfer blog (19:03 18/07/24).

Fraser is currently contracted to Charlton Athletic but seems heavily out-of-favour at The Valley. Last season would see him make just 16 appearances in the third tier for the Addicks, only nine of those being starts and he’d duly be loaned out to SPFL outfit Hearts for the second half of the season.

He’d make 12 senior appearances for the Jam Tarts during his spell north of the border, yet once again struggled for minutes. That was not his first time having played in his native country, having come through the ranks at his hometown club Dundee United, prior to his move to Burton Albion in 2018.

The 29-year-old would prove himself as a more-than good enough addition for the Brewers and he’d be everpresent as well as consistent in their midfield for two seasons. However, it was his move to MK Dons in the summer of 2020 where he had his most productive season.

In a quite frankly astonishing year at a personal level, Fraser would put up 14 goals and a further six assists in League One as well as collecting the club’s Player’s Player of the Yeas award. After that spell, the Scotsman was expected to kick on but a failed move to Ipswich Town and a somewhat unsuccessful stay with Charlton, despite a strong first season, means that he has got a bit to prove.

With a year left on his contract with the Addicks, the forthcoming season is indeed a significant one for the midfielder. According to the Daily Record Fraser could well depart on loan once again this summer, and move back to his hometown.

Instead of returning to Dundee United, it is believed that SPFL side Dundee want to gain the 29-year-old’s services and with his sights potentially slightly lowered, he could well see an upturn in minutes.

With a bit to prove, Fraser will want to make an impact if he is to complete a move but at his best, he’d be a great addition for the Dark Blues.

Writer’s View

After a mightily impressive 2020/21 season with MK Dons , Fraser’s form has severely plateaued over the last few seasons. His move to Ipswich flopped and although he got some form back in his first season with Charlton, last term was the complete opposite.

He seems to be out of the plans at the Valley currently and may well move out on loan this summer, despite only having a singular season left on his contract.

A move back to his hometown, despite it being the bitter rivals of his former club, could help to revitalise his career and on his day, he’d be a standout in Dundee’s team. That is if he can find his best again though…
