West Bromwich Albion Midfielder Now Linked With Promotion Rival

Okay Yokuslu is wanted by Hull City, according to Hull Live, despite playing a pivotal role in West Bromwich Albion’s fifth-placed finish.

The Turkish international began his career for multiple clubs in his home country including the likes of ; Altay, Kayserispor and Trabzonspor. During this time, he would make over 150 appearances in the Super Lig, emphasising his talents from a young age.

Once moving from his home country, he would join Celta Vigo in La Liga. The Turkish international’s performances would then be recognised by then-Premier League side West Bromwich Albion under Sam Allardyce.  He would appear 16 times for the Baggies in that initial loan spell.

Without a permanent deal made, the now-30-year-old would go on loan to Getafe before then landing with the Baggies, completing a permanent deal in the summer of 2022. In his time in the Championship, he would appear over 80 times and play a pivotal role in their surge up the league table.

Under Carlos Corberán, the midlands-based side would register a fifth-placed finish. Many considered this achievement to be surprising given their competitors. However, their dreams of promotion would be dismantled after a 3-1 loss to Southampton in the semi-final.

Alongside his club success, the defensive-midfielder has also featured for the Turkish national team. For his country, he has gained over 40 caps and most recently came off the bench in three European Championship games.

As recently reported, the midfielder has been linked with a move away to many different locations. Besiktas was seen as a front-runner given his prior experience in the league. However, according to Ertan Suzgun, the Turkish giants have failed to reach a formal agreement to secure his services.

As a result, Hull City have now stepped up their offer to bring him to the MKM Stadium. According to Hull Live, they are currently negotiating a permanent deal in a bid to seal his signature ahead of their pre-season tour.

Now considered a rather ambitious side, Hull will look to bolster their midfield options under new manager Tim Walter. The club narrowly missed out on the play-offs last season, leading to the sacking of Liam Rosenior. In a bid to change their fortunes, the addition of Yokuslu could well do that.

Writer’s View

After heavily relying on loans last season, a midfielder who offers stability and consistency could be crucial towards Hull’s play-off charge. In addition, with the loss of Ozan Tufan, midfield options wee always going to be looked at this summer.

As for Carlos Corberan’s side, losing out on an integral part of their midfield success and a figure who understands the Spaniard’s system is costly. In addition, with how competitive the Championship is set to be, losing key players to rivals is not ideal and it’s a rather sufficient blow.
