Exclusive: Millwall Eyeing Move For Lincoln City Star

Millwall are preparing a bid for Lincoln City goalkeeper Lukas Jensen, sources close to the Real EFL have revealed.

The Lions are hunting a new number one after the tragic passing of Matija Sarkic in June. Grimsby-born Sarkic made 32 appearances for Neil Harris’s side last season, and his gloves will be tough to fill.

Jensen is entering the final year of his contract at Lincoln but caught the eye in League One last season. The Danish stopper earned the Imps’ Player of the Year award after keeping 19 clean sheets.

However, Jensen will not come cheap if Millwall come forward with a bid. The Imps recently sold Lasse Sorensen for a fee believed to be in the region of £400,000 plus add-ons, and there’s every chance Neil Harris will have to find a similar figure to take Jensen to London.

Jensen started his career with Helsingør in Denmark, then had a spell with HIK before Burnley brought him to England. He had loan spells with Bolton, Kordrengir, and Carlisle before a temporary move to Accrington gave him first-team football. He turned out 35 times for Stanley, before being released by Burnley.

That prompted the Imps to swoop, offering him a two-year deal. A common practice at the LNER Stadium is to add a one-year option, but the club revealed this summer that this didn’t exist for Jensen, and he was entering the final year of his contract.

That alerted a number of clubs, including recently promoted pair Derby and Oxford, but the price has been a stumbling block. That doesn’t seem to be the case for Millwall, who yesterday spent a reported £700,000 on striker Macaulay Langstaff.

Whilst they’re unlikely to match that fee for Jensen, they will need six healthy figures if they’re to take the keeper away from the LNER Stadium.

Writer’s View

This is news Lincoln fans have been dreading all summer – solid interest from a Championship club for Lukas Jensen. The keeper was a revelation for them last season, but every player has a price, and if he were to move, it would be the first window in which the Imps came close to recouping £1 million in player sales.

Jensen is a top keeper, he’s big and dominant in his area. His shot-stopping is right up there with the best in the division, but £400,000+ is a lot for a club to spend on a keeper. Sadly, needs have increased for the Lions, which may prompt them to match the Imps’ asking price.
