Hull City Set Asking Price For In Demand Star

Hull City have made their price known as various clubs are prepared to make a move for Ryan Longman according to reports.

The winger spent the end of last season at Millwall as he played his part in securing the Lions’ survival in the Championship with three goals and three assists. Neil Harris’s side are one of those interested in a move to bring the Brighton academy graduate back to The Den, but face competition from other English sides as stated in The Mirror.

Whilst the second-division sides have not been named, League One sides Birmingham City and Wrexham are revealed as two interested parties, as well as clubs abroad. The Tigers are willing to sell Longman who is in the last year of his contract.

Tim Walter’s side are currently interested in a deal for Slovenian international Zan Celar hence why a deal to sell the winger may be pivotal to securing the deal for FC Lugano forward.

South London Press’ Richard Cawley has also reported that Hull are “asking for a seven-figure sum” for the 23-year-old, adding that the Yorkshire club’s “intention is to make a profit” on their striker. City bought the left-sided winger for an undisclosed fee, which the Brighton Argus stated could reach up to £1.5 million should clauses be met.

Longman has been fairly productive since being sold by the Seagulls in January 2022, having scored 10 times and added eight assists in 109 appearances for both Hull and Millwall. The Redhill-born player had an immense impact when he arrived in South London, scoring a pivotal goal to secure a win against champions Leicester City in April.

Neil Harris spoke openly of his desire to bring ‘Longy’ back to his side on a permanent basis to the South London Press, saying: “He showed some excellent attributes to be a really, really positive attacking influence as a Millwall winger.

“I really enjoyed working with him. He’s a brilliant character. He is a player we have stayed in touch with and the door was firmly open for Longy to certainly work with me and the football club in the future.

“Sometimes in football, things can change quickly. Hull have changed their manager not long after the season finished and players then might be in plans or might be out of plans.

“There’s certainly been a continued relationship between Ryan and myself regarding what the future years might hold.”

Writer’s View

Ryan Longman is a player in demand and Hull City seem to be matching that with their asking price. Millwall seem to be the safest bet in terms of his next destination, with Neil Harris being very vocal of his desire to bring him back to The Den.

Whilst it is not known who the other Championship clubs are at this stage, they all have the advantage over both Wrexham and Birmingham in terms of being able to deliver higher-level football than the Blues and Dragons. Whilst they may be able to over more financial weight behind their offers, it is hard to see him joining either side next season.
