Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier is being linked with a move to former Champions League winners Marseille, according to reports in France.
In an article in Le Provence translated from French, it is reported that Meslier would be keen on the move and is in contact with the 1993 Champions League winners over a deal.
A move for the 24-year-old is still in its early stages but there is concrete interest from the French giants, whose goalkeeping situation is still up in the air.
Should the Frenchman make a return to his homeland, he would be managed by former Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi, who joined the club this summer after leaving the Seagulls. The six-foot-six keeper could also see his international prospects benefit from a transfer. Meslier currently has 13 caps for France at under-21 level and a move to Marseille could see him considered for the senior side.
Meslier signed for Leeds permanently in 2020 under former manager Marcelo Bielsa after impressing during a loan spell at the club the previous season. The shot-stopper has gone on to make 175 appearances for the Yorkshire outfit, playing a crucial role in the side’s promotion to the Premier League in his loan season. Meslier was, however, criticised by many for his performances in his three seasons in the top-flight, having made several errors leading to goals.
The Daily Mail are reporting that the Whites need to raise £100 million this summer after missing out on promotion last campaign and the sale of Meslier, who is valued at £18 million by Transfermarkt, could help them financially as they look to succeed in achieving promotion this time around.

This would be a pretty good deal for Leeds if they can get a decent fee. Meslier struggled in the Premier League so a different man between the sticks may be wise if they want to make the step up.
From a financial point of view, the club need all the money they can get as their parachute payments decrease, with investment in the squad needed as many key men are linked with moves away. Should Meslier sell for around his market value, that would be a victory for Leeds.
