Northern Irish international Josh Magennis is subject to interest from a League One side following his release from Wigan Athletic.
He departed the Lancashire club in May after Shaun Maloney’s side succumbed to a 12th-placed finish in the third tier. The 33-year-old finished with seven goals and a solitary assist in what was his second and final full season at the club.
Magennis made just shy of 100 appearances for the Latics before his release, and a fellow League One club are interested in recruiting the former Hull City and Bolton Wanderers. He has won the title at this level twice, with the Tigers and Wigan the following season.
According to the Belfast Telegraph, Exeter City are keen on signing the striker for next season where he would join former Athletic player and manager Gary Caldwell at St James’ Park. The Grecians finished just one point behind Wigan last season in 13th.
City struggled in front of net last season, scoring just 46 times in the league, with their top scorer being midfielder Reece Cole on seven finishes. Across League One, they ranked 18th in terms of goals scored.
Despite his departure from the DW Stadium, Magennis has still been picked by the Northern Irish national team, with appearances against Andorra and Spain in June.
Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph about his future, the ex-Charlton Athletic and Cardiff City forward said: “I’m not one who’s arrogant to believe that I should be playing at a certain standard of football. That’ll just come with either age, lack of form or just opportunity, and I’m willing to go anywhere.
“I’m going to stay in football for as long as I possibly can and see where we end up.”

Josh Magennis may be approaching the end of his career but still has plenty to offer at an EFL level. Exeter City seems like a good move for him and should benefit both parties. The Grecians struggled for goals last season and signing a veteran goalscorer such as the 33-year-old will strengthen their attacking output.
Millenic Alli was a positive signing from FC Halifax Town and whilst he has only played 10 games, his four goals already put him joint third in league goals for the club since joining in January. There are still areas Exeter need to recruit and their next priority should be trying to resign Luke Harris from Fulham or finding a suitable replacement for the 19-year-old.
