Notts County Duo Subject Of Championship Interest

Swansea City could launch a move for Notts County duo Macaulay Langstaff and Jodi Jones this summer, according to the Swansea Independent.

The Welsh outfit are on the prowl for reinforcements in what is set to be a summer of change. An array of incomings and outgoings are expected as manager Luke Williams looks to put his stamp on the squad ahead of his first full season in charge.

The 43-year-old took over from Michael Duff in January, eventually securing a 14th placed finish in the Championship. He initially struggled upon his arrival, although recovered strongly to record three wins from their final five fixtures.

Swansea still harbour ambitions of a return to the Premier League following their relegation from the top tier in 2018. However, it is claimed that players will need to be sold to accommodate any potential new signings.

Nathan Wood could be the big summer departure and the one who could generate the most income. The defender was the subject of January interest from Southampton, who failed with two bids worth up to £10 million. It is claimed that the Saints could return with a fresh offer.

According to reports, Swansea could then use that money to dip into League Two. It is said that Williams is keen on a reunion with a pair of his former players at Notts County, with striker Macaulay Langstaff topping the list.

The 27-year-old has been the Magpies’ talisman since his arrival from Gateshead in 2022. He hit an incredible 41 goals in 45 appearances as the East Midlands-based club secured promotion from the National League last year. He then followed that up by securing the League Two Golden Boot last season with 28 goals.

Langstaff has been linked with a move to Swansea since Williams switched Meadow Lane for the Swansea.com Stadium, but it is claimed that the Swans will now push forward with a move. Furthermore, they may also try and tempt fellow Notts player Jodi Jones to follow suit.

The winger is another who took to EFL football effortlessly, recording a stunning 23 assists in 43 league outings. The Malta international is under contract for another 12 months, although his teammate still has three years remaining on his current deal.

Obviously, this is an easy link to make due to Williams’ past allegiances with the two players. However, it is understandable that he would be keen to bring them to Wales and would be confident that they could make the step up to the Championship with ease.

Langstaff has more than proven his worth in both League Two and the National League in the last couple of years. He is someone who has earned his shot at the second tier. Similarly, Jones has also excelled and could be a good option for Swansea. He would also come at a lower cost than proven Championship wingers. Of course, it is a risk, but Williams has worked with the players and knows exactly what they are capable of.
