Shrewsbury Town are chasing the signature of highly-rated Manchester United goalkeeper Radek Vitek, according to Alan Nixon on his Patreon account.
The 20-year-old, who is valued at £300,000, as per Transfermarkt, spent the season in League Two plying his trade with Accrington Stanley for whom he managed to get four clean sheets in 18 appearances in England’s fourth tier, having only joined the club in January.
The Czech star has also appeared on the bench for the first team at Old Trafford twice this campaign, with both coming in the Champions League group stages against Bayern Munich and Galatasaray respectively. He also sat on the bench in August in the Premier League for a game against Tottenham Hotspur.
The youngster still has three years remaining on his contract at the Red Devils where he has been since 2020, having come through the youth categories, so a loan does seem more likely, particularly since he has only just signed a new deal with the English giants.
Since 2020, he has made 55 outings for the youth sides at Manchester United and boasts eight clean sheets which appears to have alerted Paul Hurst and his team. The shot-stopper was also United’s number one in the 2021/22 UEFA Youth League campaign, which ended in a quarter-final defeat on penalties to Borussia Dortmund. Vitek managed one save during the shootout, but the club’s takers were thwarted more often.
With Harry Burgoyne having already left Croud Meadow and Marko Marosi seemingly on his way out and expected to turn down a contract offer from the club, there is an opening for a new goalkeeper in Shropshire. This would represent a step up for Vitek’s development. Additionally, Shrewsbury have been linked with Toby Savin, whom Vitek replaced at Accrington and Joe Whitworth, who is a promising keeper at Crystal Palace.

With Town not having the biggest budget in the third tier, it’s likely they will look to facilitate a loan move for a new goalkeeper or two, so the Vitek rumour could certainly have legs to it, even if they do sign another shot-stopper. Nevertheless, Manchester United will want assurances that he will play.
Losing players of the quality of Burgoyne and Marosi is always going to hit a club hard but it gives an opportunity for a new hero between the sticks. It could well be that Radek Vitek is the new hero in Shropshire.
