Dundee United have joined the race for former Cheltenham Town man Will Ferry, according to a report in The Courier.
Ferry, who can operate at left-back or in a more advanced left-sided role, is reportedly hot property this summer. Earlier in May, The Real EFL exclusively revealed interest in the former Southampton man from League One side Blackpool.
After a successful season that culminated in winning the Scottish Championship and securing a return to the top flight, Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin is in the hunt for reinforcements.
Goodwin has released the club’s title-winning left-back Scott McMann and it is believed United see Ferry as someone who fits the profile of players they are looking for.
Ferry is young, versatile and ultimately has resale value, something that is important to the club as they look to become a sustainable Premiership side.
The versatile left-footer performed admirably in a Cheltenham side that would ultimately succumb to relegation, providing two goals and four assists from the left flank.
Since joining the Robins in August 2022 from Southampton, the Republic of Ireland Under 21 International has made 82appearances, scoring twice and laying on eight assists.
The 23-year-old was offered a contract at Whaddon Road but appears set on remaining in League One at least, with reported interest also coming from the lower half of the Championship.
Interest in Ferry from north of the border is not thought to be limited to the Tannadice Park outfit, with another Scottish Premiership club keen on his signature, according to The Courier report.
Writer’s View
Ferry is attracting the interest his performances have warranted and looks to have a very important decision to make.
Having been born in Bury, a move to Blackpool could appeal to Ferry as he will be returning to his northwest roots. That may give Blackpool an advantage over Dundee United but I would be interested to see if any Championship clubs emerged as suitors for Ferry.
You have to imagine that a move to the English second tier would be an opportunity he would jump at.
