Following Norwich City‘s dismissal of ex-manager David Wagner, the Canaries have turned their heads to an overseas talent in Denmark – to Johannes Hoff Thorup.
Thorup is a recognised face around the Danish league, due to his reasonable success with Nordsjaelland. The 35-year-old took charge of the side in January 2023, and has since won 52% of his matches at the helm. After progressing through the ranks at the Tigers, prominently as an assistant manager, Thorup finally landed the main role.
One stumbling block for Norwich is the work permit that the Dane would require in order to ply his trade in England. However, Football Insider seem fairly certain that the application has in fact already been accepted. His remarkable achievement of a second-placed finish in a top-flight league, will likely warrant a big push from the Canaries.
Sitting in fourth position, with a last-ditch chance of third on the final day, Thorup has kept the squad consistently battling with the rest of Denmark’s elite. This talented side consists of some very promising stars. A plethora of attacking-minded prospects include Ibrahim Osman, Andreas Schjelderup, and Oliver Antman – who are likely to all earn huge moves to Europe’s best sides soon.
The latest speculation around City’s future head coach, had culminated in the last week with likely approaches for former Stade de Reims boss, Will Still, and Liam Rosenior – who was relinquished of his duties at Hull City recently. The bookmakers now consider Thorup to be the most attainable for the Championship side this summer.

Having moulded a relatively young squad together, the 35-year-old could also have a promising array of talent to work with in England, should he join the Canaries. If the East Anglian side can keep the likes of Gabriel Sara, Jonathan Rowe, and Josh Sargent at Carrow Road, despite building interest, Thorup could get this group ticking like clockwork.
The 35-year-old is the current favourite to take the hot seat, and with his new, modern approach to the game, it’s no surprise why the Canaries are honing in on his signature. An astute appointment like this is a ‘match made in heaven’ with any promotion dream.
