Leicester City Set To Open Talks Over £2.6 Million Summer Deal

Leicester City are set to be active in the transfer market this summer and have identified a rising star in Belgium to bolster the midfield, according to the latest reports.

The Foxes are now back in the Premier League, having taken a twelve-month hiatus from the competition. Despite some ropey results in February and March, the former champions of England clinched promotion by lifting the Championship title, playing some of the best football in the division.

This summer, the recruitment department are looking to improve the first-team squad by adding a couple of new faces who can provide competition for the established members. One area that needs enhancing is in the middle of the park.

Leicester City Face PL Competition To Sign £770K Top-Flight Star

It was revealed during the January window that Leicester City were close to signing Internazionale midfielder Stefano Sensi who had fallen out of favour with the Italian giants under the tutelage of Simone Inzaghi. However, Inzaghi himself vetoed the sale due to a lack of depth in the midfield.

The signing of Sensi may still go ahead this summer as the 28-year-old will be out of contract with the Serie A champions once the season ends, meaning the Foxes can swoop in and secure his signature for free in just a few weeks.

Nevertheless, another name has now popped up on the club’s radar. According to a report from journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Leicester are lining up a £2.6 million bid for Royal Antwerp’s 19-year-old midfielder Pierre Dwomoh.

Speaking on his transfer round-up show Wait & See, Tavolieri claimed that the East Midlands outfit are to set open talks over personal terms with the Belgian teenager’s representatives over the coming days [quotes via Football League World]:

“There is a clear interest from Leicester City. Leicester took information from the player’s entourage and would even be ready, according to several sources, to line up a €3m bid. That’s the amount Royal Antwerp want for him.

“There are discussions planned to take place in person in England in the coming days between the player’s representatives and Leicester in order to find an agreement on an individual basis and then it will therefore be necessary to inquire about an agreement with Antwerp.”

Leicester City will need to be smart in the transfer market over the next few months. Having already been charged with breaching the Profit and Sustainability Rules and facing a potential points deduction next season, the club are certainly being watched closely.

Signing someone like Dwomoh would represent a positive reversion to their old transfer approach, which was to sign players for a low fee with the possibility of selling them on for large profits further down the line.
