Former Bristol Rovers striker Jamie Cureton has today been unveiled as the new manager of Northern League Ishmen Premier Division side Cambridge City.
Cureton has quietly gone about his work over the previous couple of seasons having managed Enfield FC and then most recently enjoyed a spell as a coach with Maldon & Tiptree. He’d lead the former to the Essex Senior title in the 2022/23 season and would play a part in helping the latter to safety this season.
He’d even appear for Maldon & Tiptree as a player-coach this year despite now being 48-years-old. Cureton’s love for the game is incredibly admirable and he’d have a long and successful career as a player. Somewhat of a journeyman, the striker would appear for a whole host of EFL sides including the likes of Norwich City, Reading, Queens Park Rangers and Exeter City to name just four.
It was however with Bristol Rovers where Cureton potentially had his best and most consistent spell. Joining from Norwich after a successful loan spell in 1996, it was with the Gas where the striker would really put his name on the map.
Spending four years with the club, he’d end up making over 140 competitive appearances, scoring 61 times and putting himself down as one of the club’s greatest ever goalscorers in the process.
Hailing from Bristol, Cureton enjoyed his time with the club and still seems to have the same love for the game as he did over 25 years ago when he first appeared for the Gas.
Speaking to Cambridge City’s official website, the veteran seemed delighted with the move.
“I am thrilled to be appointed as the new manager of Cambridge City Football Club. This is a fantastic opportunity, and I am eager to start this new chapter with such an historic and passionate club.
I believe in a strong team ethic, hard work, and dedication, both on and off the field. My goal is to build on the solid foundation already in place, bringing fresh ideas and strategies to help the club achieve our ambitions.
I am looking forward to getting to work straight away as there is a lot to do before the season starts. I cannot wait to meet and get to know everyone at the club including our loyal supporters. Together, we can strive for success and make this season a memorable one for everyone involved with Cambridge City FC.
Thank you for your warm welcome. Let’s get to work and make great things happen”

There are very few people in the world like Jamie Cureton and it seems as if he may never leave the game. A class act in every sense of the word, the opportunity at Cambridge City seems a great way for him to progress in a managerial capacity.
It wouldn’t come as a surprise to even see him don his boots once again and although his playing style will have varied a bit since his early years, his experience will stand his players in a very good stead for the upcoming season.
Bristol Rovers will be hoping that they can obtain a striker of his former level this summer to help lead the line alongside star man Chris Martin next term.
