Blackburn Rovers Dealt Boost In Pursuit Of Top Flight Striker

It’s set to be a summer of change at Ewood Park after a disappointing season for Blackburn Rovers, which would see them finish 19th and only securing their safety on the final day of the season.

Perhaps the club were somewhat fortunate to play already-crowned champions Leicester City on the last day, with their opponents not needing anything from the game. A 2-0 win was what would preserve their Championship status which at this point is the most important thing for the club.

It’s been quite a strange year for the Lancashire side, they’ve had a managerial change, sold one of their star assets and had a big transfer fall through, all three potentially impacting their season.

Many fans will remember the problems that the club faced trying to sign striker Duncan McGuire in the January transfer window, a deal which would eventually break down. Despite it looking highly likely that the USA international would be making a move first on a permanent basis, and then even on a loan for the rest of the season, the deal would collapse at the last minute.

McGuire, who currently plays for MLS side Orlando City, has scored four times in America’s top flight this season and is a major part of their attack. He does however still want to make a move this summer, and could well end up in England.

It has been revealed by the Lancashire Telegraph, that Blackburn are still in contact with the striker, which speaks favourably for a summer move. To make the move look even likelier, McGuire has supposedly turned down a new deal with Orlando City and is set to move on this summer.

The 23-year-old is supposedly still open to a move to Blackburn but they may face competition with other sides also tracking his current status.

If he was to sign this summer, then he could be the man to replace Sammie Szmodics, who has been touted with a Premier League move. They’d be rather big boots to fill given Szmodics was the Championship top goalscorer and McGuire will be expected to be the focal point of the Rovers attack next season if he was to sign.

The collapse of McGuire’s deal in January was rather comical and Blackburn fans will be hoping that this time it gets over the line. Although unproven in England, the striker certainly has potential and could be a real hit with the fanbase.

It’s looking highly likely that Szmodics will be leaving the club this summer and McGuire could be a potential replacement. You’d think that they’d want another more experienced striker within their ranks as well to replace the void that the Championship top goalscorer would leave.

Recruitments will be a big talking point at Ewood Park this summer, and they must get it spot on if they want to progress on their finish this season.
