Hull City Targeting Manager With 41% Win Rate

Hull City are keen to talk to Coventry City boss Mark Robins over their vacant managerial position, according to Football Insider.

The Tigers made the shock decision to part company with Liam Rosenior earlier this week after the 39-year-old failed to achieve a place in the Championship play-offs. The Humberside outfit missed out on the final day after a 1-0 defeat against Plymouth Argyle, although West Bromwich Albion‘s win over Preston North End did make it unlikely that they would sneak into the top six anyway.

Despite the disappointment, Rosenior had widely been praised for the job he had performed at the MKM Stadium. A poor run of form towards the end of the campaign ultimately proved costly, although the Head Coach was nominated for the Championship’s Manager of the Season award.

Owner Acun Ilicali has claimed that it was the most difficult decision he has had to make since taking over in 2022. The Turk stated that a difference in visions over the future was the sticking point and it is thought that he is keen to make a swift appointment to allow ample time for planning for the new season.

The usual suspects have already been touted as potential successors, including Will Still, Paul Heckingbottom and Steve Cooper. However, Football Insider claim that Coventry City manager Mark Robins now tops their list.

The 54-year-old has been at the Sky Blues since 2017, his second spell in charge of the club. He has performed a phenomenal job during his latest tenure, taking them from League Two to the upper reaches of the Championship. They were beaten in the play-off final last season by Luton Town, whilst they came within a whisker of reaching the FA Cup final last month when they were beaten on penalties by Manchester United in the semi-final.

A late charge for a top six finish fell short this time around, but Robins is held in high regard. There was even calls from former Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew that the Red Devils could do much worse than bringing in their former player to replace Erik ten Hag.

A 41% win rate at the CBS Arena is impressive over such a long spell, where he has emerged victorious in 151 of his 369 games at the helm. It is said that Hull will make contact with his representatives over a potential move this summer.

This would be a huge shock. Robins’ successes over the past few years have undoubtedly put him on the radar of a few clubs. However, he won’t come cheap and signed a new four-year contract last year.

Hull’s interest is certainly ambitious, but they are a club who feel they should be in the Premier League. This may come down to whether Robins feels he needs a new challenge. That seems unlikely though and he will surely believe he has unfinished business at Coventry, where he will hope to take them to the top flight themselves.
