West Ham United Looking At Championship Duo This Summer

West Ham United have had success in the past when signing players from the division below and the club will dip back into the Championship this summer, according to the latest reports.

The Hammers’ season has fizzled out spectacularly over the past few weeks. The East London outfit have picked up merely one win in eight matches in all competitions which came away at Wolverhampton Wanderers at the start of April. Furthermore, the side have been knocked out of the Europa League after a 3-1 loss on aggregate to Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen.

Heavy defeats in 2024 against the likes of Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Arsenal and Manchester United have caused tensions to rise at the London Stadium, with the club announcing on Monday that David Moyes would be leaving his position as manager after four-and-a-half successful years at the helm.

Four Managers Who Could Lead Hull City Into Next Season – Opinion

Work has been taking place behind the scenes to appoint a new man to the dugout with a European pedigree and former Real Madrid, Spain and Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui has been named as the likely successor for the 62-year-old.

One requirement for taking charge of West Ham United this summer will be the coach’s need to work alongside the club’s sporting director Tim Steidten. From the get-go, there seemed to be friction between the German and Moyes.

Steidten will be in charge of finding the perfect players for the next manager who align with the club’s philosophy going forward. According to a report from Football Insider, the Hammers have identified Coventry City playmaker Callum O’Hare and Hull City defender Jacob Greaves as perfect players to get their homegrown quota up.

O’Hare is out of contract with the Sky Blues this summer, meaning West Ham could sign him for free. Meanwhile, Greaves still has two years remaining on his current deal with the Tigers but may be assessing his future at the club following the board’s decision to sack highly-rated manager Liam Rosenior on Tuesday afternoon.

Writer’s View

West Ham United are no strangers to buying Championship players. The likes of Michail Antonio, James Ward-Prowse and most notably Jarred Bowen were all brought to the club, having played in the second tier and this policy doesn’t look set to stop over the coming months.

The Championship is a division that is getting better and better every season, almost like a mini Premier League, which means it’s a bit easier for clubs to know whether a player will be able to adapt to the top-flight compared to other leagues in Europe.
