Portsmouth Keeping Tabs On £500K-Rated Award Winner

Portsmouth are interested in bringing Bristol Rovers midfielder Antony Evans to Fratton Park this summer after earning promotion to the Championship, according to the latest reports.

John Mousinho has done an excellent job in his first full season as a head coach. Pompey were deserved winners of League One and have finally managed to return to England’s second tier for the first time in 12 years.

However, work will now begin behind the scenes to strengthen the squad ahead of the summer transfer window as Portsmouth look to avoid bouncing straight back down to League One. Based on recent transfer rumours, it is abundantly clear that Mousinho is keen to sign a new midfielder over the coming months.

It was reported in recent weeks that the club on the south coast have emerged as suitors for Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Marc Leonard, who has spent the entire season on loan at Northampton Town in League One and is a player that Mousinho knows very well, although The News, Portsmouth have stated that a deal for Leonard is unlikely.

However, The News have released a report claiming that Portsmouth are also keeping tabs on Bristol Rovers star Antony Evans. Mousinho sees the 25-year-old as someone who can add some attacking nous to the squad, particularly with Alex Robertson returning to Manchester City following the expiration of his loan spell.

While the Gas finished mid-table this season, Evans proved to be one of the most productive players at the Memorial Stadium, bagging ten goals and recording nine assists in 52 appearances in all competitions, earning himself the club’s Player of the Season award. Furthermore, his market value has rocketed to £515,000, as per Transfermarkt.

This would be a fantastic signing for Portsmouth. Evans is a player with a lot of quality and is good enough to play in the Championship. Perhaps Mousinho will offer him the chance to do so during the summer transfer window.

Nevertheless, the playmaker still has 12 months remaining on his current deal with Bristol Rovers, so Pompey will have to work out a decent fee if they want to acquire his services ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
