Ipswich Town are set to offer goalkeeper Vaclav Hladky with a new long-term contract as a reward for his fine form this season, according to journalist Alan Nixon.
The 33-year-old joined the Tractor Boys in 2021, although had to act as understudy to Christian Walton, who had initially signed on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion. After impressing during his temporary spell, a permanent deal was agreed just six months later and he remained first choice as Ipswich earned promotion from League One last season.
However, he suffered an injury before the beginning of the Championship campaign, allowing Hladky a chance to impress between the sticks. The Czech showed his quality as Kieran McKenna’s side took the second tier by storm, forcing the manager to retain his services upon the return of his first choice shot stopper.
The Suffolk-based club remain in the hunt for back-to-back promotions and a place in the Premier League for the first time in 22 years. Hladky has kept 14 clean sheets in 43 league appearances to date, which has been key to their current second-placed position with just three games remaining.
The former Salford City goalkeeper is out of contract at the end of the season, although Nixon states that a new deal is on the horizon. It is stated that Ipswich are prepared to offer up to an additional three years, which Hladky would be more than happy to accept. Furthermore, this could force Walton to look for pastures new in search of first team football.
The 28-year-old is also out of contract at the end of the campaign, although there is an option to extend by an additional year. If he does decide to leave Portman Road, there are sure to be plenty of clubs lining up to secure his services. He became a record breaker last season when he went 646 minutes without conceding a goal.
Ipswich were due to face Coventry City this weekend. However, the Sky Blues antics in the FA Cup have handed McKenna’s team a rare weekend off as they prepare for a crucial few weeks.

It’s not a surprise to see that Hladky has done enough to earn a new deal. He has been a crucial component of a team which has surprised many with their exploits this season. Quite simply, he deserves a shot at the Premier League.
You have to feel for Walton though. After a stunning campaign last season in League One, he would have been looking forward at trying his hand in the Championship. It’s unfortunate his injury came at the time it did because it allowed his understudy to stake his claim, something he grasped with both hands. It appears as if his future likes elsewhere.
