Peterborough United Face Premier League Battle For 11-Goal Star

Peterborough United could be set to lose Ricky-Jade Jones to one of several Premier League clubs, according to a Daily Star report.

The Posh academy graduate is enjoying the most fruitful season of his young career, scoring eight League One goals and 11 in all competitions.

Jones has been a key member of the Peterborough side this season and played 80 minutes at Wembley as the club secured the Bristol Street Motors trophy on Sunday.

Having played close to 140 matches for the Cambridgeshire outfit, with 90 of those in League One, the pacey attacker is an experienced young player.

The 21-year-old, who made his first-team debut at just 16 in the EFL Cup, can play across the front three utilising his electric pace to cause defenders problems.

Now, the Peterborough-born player is reportedly subject to interest from the Premier League, with Newcastle Unites showing ‘intense interest’ and leading the race for the exciting talent.

The report suggests that the Magpies may be looking at Jones due to the enforcement of the new financial regulations, and the punishments handed out to Everton and Nottingham Forest for breaching those regulations.

Newcastle CEO Darren Eales admitted earlier this year that the club may have to sell some of their best players to comply with Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

This could leave the door open for a move to sign a player like Jones, who has vast experience playing senior football but who still has lots of room to develop.

It is believed that Posh director of football Barry Fry would be looking for a fee of around £2 million for a player who has a little over a year left on his current contract.

Ricky-Jade Jones has been touted as a potential star for some time now so it is no surprise to see the Premier League clubs circling.

He has established himself in the Peterborough team and is scoring more consistently than ever before.

A chance to develop and become a top-flight player would surely appeal to the youngster and for Newcastle, paying a fee of £2 million for a player with potential is a risk worth taking.
