“Motivation Is Insane” – West Bromwich Albion Star Heaps Huge Praise On Corberan

West Bromwich Albion captain Jed Wallace has revealed that Carlos Corberan is a “top manager” as the Baggies prepare themselves for a likely place in the play-offs.

The West Midlands outfit are currently on a six-game unbeaten streak in the Championship and now sit eight points clear of seventh place, meaning finishing the campaign inside the top six looks highly likely. According to Opta’s latest projections, there is merely a 2.8% chance that West Brom end the season outside of the play-off spots.

Last season, Corerban took over at a team that was flirting with the relegation zone and ended up guiding West Bromwich Albion to within three points of the play-offs. This time around, the Baggies are going one step further.

The biggest problem for West Brom will be third and fourth-place. If Corberan’s men are to earn promotion to the Premier League for the first time since 2021, they may have to conquer either Leeds United, Leicester City, Ipswich Town or Southampton, depending on how the automatic promotion race goes.

Nevertheless, club skipper Wallace believes that his side have an edge in the race by having a coach like Corberan on the sidelines. Speaking in a recent interview, the playmaker said [quotes via Birmingham Live]:

“I don’t think he could have more of an extra edge if he tried.

“His motivation is insane. I agree, Huddersfield were unlucky in that game. For me, he’s a top manager and I don’t think anyone deserves the chance to manage in the league above more than he does. We know there’s a lot of football to play but if there’s a manager you’d want in a play-off campaign.

“He’ll probably watch every single game the other teams in the play-offs have watched in the last two years and we’d have the perfect plan for it – he’s the manager to have when you enter the crunch time of the season. It’s impossible not to go with him – and you can see that,” Wallace continued.

“You have every opportunity to play well here, because of the staff we have – the manager, the medical staff, the chefs, they go above and beyond for us. We get every chance to play well as an individual and a team – you’re not always going to be at the top of your game, but you can see how hard we work at our game.”

In 2022, Corberan guided Huddersfield Town to the play-off final where the side were defeated by Steve Cooper’s Nottingham Forest. However, having left the Yorkshire outfit that summer, the Terriers have been plunged into back-to-back relegation scraps, showing how much the team overperformed under the Spaniard.

Across his time with Huddersfield and now West Bromwich Albion, Corberan has proved his worth as a top coach in the Championship and will certainly take the Baggies back up to the Premier League, even if it may not be this year.
