Watford are looking ahead to the summer transfer window to strengthen their squad and have identified a rising star in the Scottish Premiership, according to the latest reports.
The Hornets are on a gruelling run of form at the moment, having picked up just one win in their last 10 games in all competitions which came against bottom-of-the-table Rotherham United in mid-February.
This tricky spell has left the club in an unwanted relegation battle as Valerien Ismael’s side sit merely six points above the drop zone. It was revealed two weeks ago by talkSPORT that Watford were planning on relieving Ismael of his duties following a 2-1 defeat at home to Huddersfield Town, although the Frenchman has since remained in charge.
There have also been some interesting transfer rumours emerging regarding the club’s plans ahead of the summer market. Reports in Spain have claimed that Barcelona are interested in signing star winger Yaser Asprilla who is currently valued at £43 million.
Now, as has been reported by The Athletic, Watford are hoping to add to the squad by signing Celtic youngster Rocco Vata. The outlet have revealed that the Hornets will be forced to pay the Scottish champions £239,000 in compensation as the Republic of Ireland U21 international is out of contract in the summer, despite a new three-year deal being tabled by the Bhoys.

The 18-year-old has appeared for Celtic’s first-team this season but featured for merely three minutes in the league, leading to interest from the Championship outfit as well as clubs in Italy’s Serie B.

Vata is an excellent young player, capable of creating chances for teammates and putting goals away himself with his ability to get into dangerous positions like a true wide striker and with his thunderous right-footed shot which has beaten many a goalkeeper so far.
Watford would be getting a gem for merely £240,000, although it seems likely that Celtic will do everything they can to keep the teenage sensation at the club before his contract expires at the end of the campaign.
