In September 2023, Englishman Jaden Philogene-Bidace completed his £5 million move from Aston Villa to Hull City, having struggled to break into the former’s first-team.
His wonderful solo goal against Rotherham United earlier this month particularly epitomised Philogene’s electric form since moving to the Championship side. With that said, there’s no wonder the 22-year-old is drumming up interest from across Europe and in the Premier League – including from his former employer.
The Tigers’ winger has totalled eight goals so far this season in a side seriously contending for a play-off spot at the end of the season. According to Fabrizio Romano on X, Philogene is:
“On the list of multiple clubs in Premier League and more European leagues ahead of the summer transfer window.

After leaving the Birmingham-based club in the summer, despite impressing for the Villans in the pre-season Premier League Summer Series, the young winger has achieved his wish of guaranteed football and has flourished under Liam Rosenior.
However, a clause in the £5 million deal involved a buy-back option should the Tigers achieve promotion to the Premier League. If this clause is triggered, it could see Philogene return to Villa Park.
Nevertheless, football transfers are never that straight-forward, with interest from European clubs and rivals from the English top-flight, Villa may be rushed into making a crucial decision about the 22-year-old’s future.

Fortunately for Hull City fans, vice-chairman Tan Kesler confidently addressed the inclusion of the buy-back clause when speaking about the signing of Jaden Philogene-Bidace in the summer window [quotes via Birmingham Live]:
“If we are promoted [to the Premier League], Villa have the right to buy him back for £15 million. Having said that, if we have another offer that’s worth more than £15 million then we have the right to discuss it.”
“It’s not like we’re forced to sell to Villa, but they have the first choice and that’s part of our agreement.”
With the vice-chairman clearly indicating that Aston Villa have the opportunity to deliver the opening offer for Philogene, Hull appear to have a firm plan for negotiations when they inevitably take place this summer.
Writer’s View
Philogene could be a future star for club and country, with Premier League and European clubs already looking to capitalise on Aston Villa’s error sale. He is skilful, quick and dangerous in Liam Rosenior’s tactical setup. Hull City fans have a right to implore their club to demand a high fee as he is an obvious fan favourite.
With a playoff charge and a long-term contract looking increasingly likely, the ball is in Hull’s court. The English winger could even remain at the Yorkshire side should they manage to gain promotion to the top-flight this season.
