Norwich City Set Asking Price For Attacker

Norwich City have set an asking price ‘in excess of £3 million’ for striker Adam Idah, who joined Scottish champions Celtic on transfer deadline day, according to the Irish Mirror.

The 22-year-old headed to Parkhead on loan until the end of the season last week, making his debut as a second half substitute in the 1-1 draw with Aberdeen at the weekend. He provided the assist for Nicolas Kuhn’s equaliser as the leaders saw bitter rivals Rangers close the gap at the top to just three points.

Idah rose through the ranks at Carrow Road, making his debut in 2019. He has since gone on to make 115 appearances for the Canaries, scoring 17 times which includes six this season.

Norwich manager David Wagner revealed that the striker pushed for a temporary move away from the Championship club after failing to start a league game since the turn of the year, saying:

“We have to say after Adam made his point clear that he likes to go on loan, for me what was clear that when we can find an alternative it makes no sense to keep someone who is desperate to go on loan.

“I totally respect Adam’s decision and his thoughts. At the right moment I backed this because our aims and targets are too high and we have to have a group who’s committed 100 per cent. The chance popped up quite late to get maybe Sydney (van Hooijdonk) on loan, and then with an option to buy as well, so it was the perfect scenario.”

The Republic of Ireland international was the subject of interest from Serie A relegation candidates Hellas Verona throughout the window, with the Italians submitting a loan bid last month. It is believed that the deal included a £3 million option to buy clause, which was rejected by the East Anglian outfit.

Celtic’s deal does not include any buy deal and Idah’s future will be assessed at the end of the season. However, according to the Irish Mirror, via Celts Are Here, Norwich will now be willing to accept a similar figure to the one that they turned down just one week ago.

The attacker meanwhile, will be hoping for his first start for his new club tomorrow night when they take on Hibernian at Easter Road.

This is one to be taken with a pinch of salt. It seems odd that Norwich would now be prepared to accept a figure they dismissed outright just one week ago, especially as he has joined a club that can afford much more.

That’s not to say that Celtic will look to make Idah’s move a permanent one – that will depend on how he does during his time there – but it seems more and more likely that he may have played his last game for the Canaries. The question is, how much can they get for him?
