Grimsby Town look to make deadline day moves as they are set to sign Cheltenham Town midfielder Curtis Thompson, as per a report by Gloucestershire Live.
The former Notts County man joined the Robins in the summer on a one-year deal following the expiration of his contract at fellow League One side Wycombe Wanderers.
He joined the Chairboys in the summer of 2018 and went on to make 152 appearances at Adams Park.
During his spell at the Gloucestershire outfit, he has made 22 appearances but has failed to register a single goal contribution. The club’s willingness to allow the 30-year-old to leave this window seems primarily down to their work already in the market as they have brought in two midfielders in Josh Harrop and Liam Kinsella this month, as well as securing the signature of Tom Pett on a contract extension until the end of the season.
Darrell Clarke’s side will be hoping they can continue the upturn in form they have seen since he came in as head coach, as they bid to secure their place in League One next season.
Grimsby have had a less-than-impressive first half of the season as they currently sit 20th in League Two. David Artell was brought in at Blundell Park in November in a bid to keep the side in the football league, yet he has failed to make an immediate impact. The signing of an experienced pro such as Thompson could prove pivotal in their fight against relegation.
The Mariners travel to the Wham Stadium this weekend to face an Accrington Stanley side who will be looking to push into playoff contention.

Cheltenham have done some solid business this month and this deal could simply be an addition to that. Letting go of a player who has not made a start since New Year’s Day could be a smart move in a bid to free up some wage budget, allowing extra moves to be made today.
For Grimsby, this is exactly the sort of signing they need to make. Sutton United could potentially pose a threat to the sides just above them at the bottom end of League Two, therefore additions needed to be made by Artell, and one of this nature is exactly the sort of move that can propel a team out of a fight for survival.
