Fleetwood Town have had a bid rejected for Heart of Midlothian defender Toby Sibbick, according to Fraser Wilson from the Daily Record.
The centre-half has only started seven games for Steven Naismith’s side this term, but it is believed that the Jambos are not interested in selling him at this stage. Despite recent struggles for game time, the former Barnsley man has played 21 times for the Jam Tarts.
His versatility also makes him a valued asset in the Scottish capital, playing across the backline and in midfield this season. Since moving to Edinburgh, he has made 81 appearances, and is currently under contract until the summer of 2025.
With the Cod Army bottom of League One, and with the worst defensive record in the division, Charlie Adam had sought defensive reinforcements in the 24-year-old. Harry Boyes has already arrived on loan from Sheffield United on the left-hand side of defence, while Josh Earl’s exit to Barnsley was finally confirmed today.
Fraser Wilson also reported that Forest Green were interested in Sibbick, but the Scottish side appear to be standing firm. Like Fleetwood, the Green Army sit bottom of their respective division, currently nine points adrift from safety.
Writer’s View
Sibbick’s game time for Hearts in recent weeks has to be concerning, and his previous experience in the English league with AFC Wimbledon and Barnsley means he would be a strong acquisition for either of the struggling sides.
His versatility could cover a number of bases for Fleetwood in particular, with the loss of Josh Vela and Scott Robertson in midfield this window. Unfortunately for the former Stoke City defender, it looks like he will have to divert his attention elsewhere, with time rapidly running out.
