Hull City have approached Championship rivals Millwall in a bid to sign midfielder Romain Esse, according to Football Insider.
The Tigers have launched a move for the 19-year-old Millwall starlet, but face competition from Premier League side Burnley. Vincent Kompany’s side have also attempted to sign the player in recent hours, and the player is open to a move away from the Den in the final days of the window.
Esse has made 15 appearances in the Championship for the Lions this season, but just one of those games have been in the starting 11. He made his debut last season in a 2-0 win over Watford.
Hull are keen to bring in some reinforcements after they lost Scott Twine earlier on in the transfer window to Bristol City. Tigers winger Ryan Longman is currently on loan at Millwall until the end of the season.

Fabio Carvalho has added some much-needed quality in the final third for Liam Rosenior’s side since joining on loan from Liverpool, but the manager has been searching for some more depth in recent days.
Burnley are currently in a relegation battle in the Premier League and the Clarets are hoping to tempt the youngster to sign before the window shuts later this week. The side from Turf Moor have switched their recruitment focus to young talents according to the report, and Esse fits right into that criteria.
Hull’s next fixture subsequently is against Millwall after the transfer deadline. There is no current agreement from either of the clubs.

Esse would be a great signing for either of the interested clubs and his lack of game time at Millwall is not a reflection of his true ability as a footballer. Burnley have scouted well in recent years and the fact they’re interested in his services showcases what type of player the midfielder is. A move to the Premier League side may not be in his best interests, however.
Game time is something he wants and that’s unlikely to be guaranteed at the Clarets during a relegation battle. Hull can offer him more assurances when it comes to starting games in the Championship, and that is the most likely destination for the player is regular match time is what he desires.
