Forest Green Rovers have signed Manchester United midfielder Maxi Oyedele on loan until the end of the season, becoming the club’s fourth signing of the January window.
The 19-year-old has spent this season so far playing in the Premier League 2 for the club’s U21s, appearing in eight games and providing a goal and an assist from midfield. Oyedele has also received his call-up to the Poland U21s this season, picking up three youth caps in the process.
The Salford-born Pole spent the second half of last season out on loan at National League outfit Altrincham, meaning his spell in Nailsworth will be his second stint in senior football. The deep-lying midfielder scored four goals in only 12 appearances in the National League, helping the Robins to a 17th place finish.
In addition to playing in the ‘six’ position, the youngster can operate higher up in the midfield as well as out on the right as both a midfielder and full-back. Oyedele will take the number 22 shirt at Forest Green.
Via the club’s website, the United loanee spoke about his arrival in Gloucestershire.
“I’m very excited to be here and I’m looking forward to getting started. I will bring energy to the group, professionalism and quality as well.
“I will let loose and give it my all. There will be no stone unturned. I believe we can climb up the table, that’s why I’ve come here, so I’ll be doing everything I can to help with that.”
Head Coach, Troy Deeney, also added:
“Maxi is a wonderful talent and we’re extremely lucky to have him here.
“The fans will enjoy watching him and we need to make sure we get him in a place where he can showcase his talents.”
Forest Green travel to Gillingham this Saturday as they look to pick up Deeney’s first win of his managerial career. The 35-year-old’s side drew 0-0 to the Gills at The New Lawn in their first game under new managerial control in December and the manager will be hoping that the signing of Oyedele, will alter the game in their favour.

Forest Green, currently sat 24th, are much in need of quality reinforcements, as well as some more goals coming out of the midfield. With new signing Alex Gorrin out suspended and Reece Brown missing due to incorrect training standards, Oyodele will provide essential cover and competition through a new-look Rovers midfield.
As for the player, the loan deal is a step up from the National League last season and an opportunity to impress at senior level if he gets the opportunities and support in the back end of the season.
