Sunderland Lead Race For Bournemouth International Striker

Sunderland is now leading the race to sign Kieffer Moore from Bournemouth, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Leeds United are one of the clubs with a keen interest in Moore but are currently trailing the Black Cats when it comes to winning the battle to sign him. Moore has fallen out of favour at the Cherries this season and is seeking first-team football in the Championship.

The former Cardiff striker has only made 11 appearances for Andoni Iraola’s side this season, starting zero games in the Premier League despite being in the squad 15 times.

His only starts have come in the cup competitions, with a goal as recently as the weekend coming in the FA Cup against QPR. The Welsh International is a proven goal scorer in the Championship, and Sunderland is looking to boost their firepower by landing the signature.

Nixon’s report suggests that Bournemouth would be happy to sell Moore if the correct bid came in. Dominick Solanke and Justin Kluivert are both ahead of the six-foot-four target man, and it’s unlikely he will get back into the side this season.

No deal has been agreed between the sides yet, but the feeling is that Sunderland needs the signing more than Leeds. Their front four has been on fire this season, but in comparison, the Black Cat’s striker Nazariy Rysin has just one goal from ten matches in the Championship.

Transfermarkt suggests Moore’s current market value sits at around £2.5million, which represents good value for a striker with over 60 goal contributions in 155 games in England’s second tier.

Sunderland face second-place Ipswich Town on Saturday in the league and will be hoping to bounce back after a humbling defeat to rivals Newcastle United last weekend. A win would keep them in contention for a playoff spot at the end of the season. Ipswich will need to win themselves to keep the pressure on Leicester City at the summit of the Championship.

Moore would represent smart recruitment for a Sunderland side that needs something different in the forward areas than what they have right now. Jack Clarke is the only player in the team to have reached double digits for goals, with Dan Ballard at centre-back having more goals than Rysin up front.

The Bournemouth target man is a proven goalscorer in the league, with a point to prove after falling out of favour at the side he won promotion to the Premier League with in 2022.
