Newport County manager Graham Coughlan has said there has been interest in their star forward Will Evans ahead of the January transfer window.
Evans, who joined the club from Cymru Premier side Bala Town in May 2022, has netted 15 goals for the Exiles in League Two this season and could see himself moving higher up the Football League pyramid in this transfer window.
Coughlan believes that it is obvious that there would be interest in the 26-year-old, with him being the third-highest scorer in the league.
Speaking to BBC Wales on the side’s potential transfer sales, Coughlan said:
“We have had one or two inquiries, that is part and parcel of football, not only about Will but about one or two of our players.
“And I think it’s great when clubs phone up about your players and clubs inquire about them. It’s part and parcel of the buzz that is kicking about at this football club.
“It’s a testament to the players and a testament to the coaching staff that we are getting phone calls about players. I don’t think it will be the last call we get”, added the 49-year-old.
Newport County are currently waiting for approval from the Football League for approval of a takeover of the club from former Swansea City chairman Hugh Jenkins. Despite waiting for the takeover, Coughlan has stated that his plans to improve the squad in the transfer window will not depend on whether the takeover is complete.
“If we are going to bring a player in, we are going to bring a player in,” he said. “We are not going to flood the club with loads of players – I don’t think the necessity is there to flood the club.”
The South Wales club will next be in action against Eastleigh when they host the National League side in the FA Cup this weekend.

It is inevitable when a forward hits form of scoring goals regularly that they will attract interest from other clubs in the Football League. It will become more difficult for Newport County to keep ahold of Evans as he only has a year remaining in his contract, so the club may look at this as a good chance to cash in whilst the opportunity is there.
The worry for the Exiles would be whether they could replace his goals, with them sitting in the precarious position of 18th in League Two, with the possibility of being dragged into a relegation fight.
