“He Is Not A Player We Are Looking To Sell” – Bradford Boss Issues Update

Bradford City boss Graham Alexander has provided an update to supporters on the future of returning striker Jake Young, when talking to The Yorkshire Post.

The 22-year-old forward spent the first half of the League Two season on loan at Swindon Town but was recalled almost immediately after The Robin’s defeat away at Crawley on New Year’s Day.

Scoring 16 goals and assisting four in only 25 league matches, the former Forest Green Rovers man has been a revelation for the Wiltshire club, and Bradford fans will be hoping that he can replicate that form now back at Valley Parade.

It was the partnership that Young managed to form with fellow loanee Dan Kemp that has taken League Two by storm. The pair came together to become the most productive duo in the EFL so far this season.

Kemp, who joined Swindon on loan from MK Dons in the summer, has also now been recalled, meaning Swindon will likely be looking to replace the goal threat that they have now lost.

There was speculation that Bradford may be looking to sell their returning star while his stock is so high. However, Bantams’ boss Alexander has confirmed that there is currently no plan to move the forward on in the January transfer window.

“We need good players and to have that competition,” he stated to the Yorkshire Post. “Jake has done exceptionally well on loan at Swindon. We’d be a fool not to recall him and see if he can get his way into our team and have the same form for us that he’s had there.”

“The more good players motivated to win us games, the better. I see a player under contract to us and available to be picked,” the former Salford boss added.

“He is not a player we are looking to sell. We want good players to help us win games.”

Bradford will hope to get back to winning ways as they host Crawley Town this Saturday.

Young has been exceptional so far this season, earning himself two League Two Player of the Month awards in both August and November.

Bradford have struggled with chance creation this season, often leaving Andy Cook isolated in attack. Therefore, they will be hoping that recalling the youngster could solve some of their issues in attack.

There is however a risk that the striker will struggle to recreate his form from the first half of the season in an Alexander side and lose his high stock.
