21-year-old Brighton and Hove Albion star Jeremy Sarmiento is set to join Ipswich Town on loan for the rest of the season, according to journalist Maria Jose Flores .
The young winger, who was on loan at West Bromwich Albion , was recalled by his Premier League parent club Brighton just a day ago as the January window opened. Sarmiento started only seven games for the Baggies in his 21 appearances, netting twice against Middlesbrough and Cardiff City.
The Ecuadorian international had previously received 14 top-flight appearances before turning 21 and therefore earned himself a name as a strong future asset for Brighton. During this time he also made 13 appearances for his home nation, including three at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The Seagulls signed the youngster for an undisclosed fee in 2021 from the academy of Portuguese club Benfica, where he had joined from EFL club Charlton Athletic. His market value now sits at €4.00m, according to Transfermarkt , though with Brighton’s transfer record, it would be expected he wouldn’t leave the club any time soon, and certainly for a higher sum than this.
According to Maria Jose Flores , Sarmiento is set to join Ipswich on a further loan deal until the end of the season, set to be announced in the next few hours. If McKenna’s side were to be promoted to the Premier League then there would remain an option to extend the loan deal for a further year.

The Ecuadorian Journalist claims:
“Brighton interrupted Jeremy Sarmiento’s loan due to the few minutes he has had with West Bromwich (Albion).
“The Ecuadorian continues to be one of Brighton’s big projects for the future, which is why they have already agreed on a new loan”
Ipswich found themselves second in the Championship after 26 matches, falling ten points behind first-place Leicester City and only three points clear of chasing Southampton in third. With a difficult second half of the season left to play, including a January clash at The King Power against top-of-the-league Leicester, Ipswich will certainly be looking to strengthen their already impressive squad.
Writer’s View
Sarmiento is a player who has shown obvious quality at Premier League level, and therefore it is a deal that makes sense for promotion-chasing Ipswich, whose form has been waived in recent weeks.
Brighton evidently didn’t see him getting game time at West Brom and therefore Ipswich seems a great place for the youngster to continue to learn his trade, particularly under Keiron McKenna. However, it remains to be seen whether he will make enough of a difference to fend off the quality of the clubs closing in on the automatic spots.
