Championship promotion hopefuls Southampton are on an excellent run of form at the moment but head coach Russell Martin has turned his attention towards the January transfer window to strengthen his squad.
The Saints have been exceptional since September and are currently on a 17-game unbeaten streak in England’s second tier, having clawed back points on Ipswich Town in the final automatic promotion spot. Martin’s side are now merely three points behind the Tractor Boys and are on a four-match winning run in the league.
Nevertheless, the club on the south coast are reportedly looking to do some business once the January transfer window opens up over the coming days and have been keeping tabs on Matthew Sorinola, who has been a free agent ever since leaving Belgian club Union Saint-Gilloise during the summer.
Furthermore, it was reported over Christmas that Southampton are looking at Manchester United attacker Amad Diallo to bolster the attacking department. The Ivorian made his first appearance of the season with the Red Devils on Saturday evening, coming off the bench during the side’s 2-1 defeat against Nottingham Forest.
It was initially reported by Football Insider that the Saints had become the favourites to sign the £9 million-rated winger on loan in January and now journalist Dean Jones has followed this up by claiming that Diallo would “jump at” the chance to return to the Championship for the remainder of the campaign.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jones said:
“This is one of the more exciting players that the Saints can be linked with right now. I think it’s one of the best rumours out there at the moment, to be honest. I think it’s something the player would probably jump at given Saints’ form and the confidence that he could take from being involved in a team like that would really suit him.
“To be playing in a side that is dominant and scoring a good amount of goals and are on the up. So yeah, I think that this is something that could really help get Southampton in contention to not just make the playoffs, but actually look at that top two.”

Diallo has experience in the Championship already, having been sensational for Sunderland last season, finishing as the club’s top goalscorer with 14 as the Black Cats earned a spot in the playoffs, so he is already proven in the league.
With Sekou Mara and Che Adams being linked with moves away from the club, Diallo would be an excellent addition to Martin’s squad and would score an abundance of goals for the Saints.
