Leicester City defender Wout Faes is a wanted man ahead of the January transfer window and the latest reports are linking him with a move to Serie A side Atalanta.
The Foxes have been exceptional this season since Enzo Maresca took over and have managed to pull away at the top of the Championship again due to Ipswich Town’s four-game winless streak.
Leicester have accumulated 62 points already and are earning 2.48 points per game on average. Additionally, Maresca’s men are eight points clear at the top of the table and currently boast the best attack and defence in England’s second tier.
However, Leicester could be dealt a blow in January as, according to Tuttomercatoweb, via Football League World, Italian side Atalanta are looking to sign star defender Wout Faes, with head coach Gian Piero Gasperini keen to bolster his backline ahead of the second half of the campaign.
La Dea are sitting sixth in Italy’s top-flight, four points off fourth place and are making a push for qualification to the UEFA Champions League for the first time in three seasons. Faes could help Atalanta reach this feat.
The Belgian defender moved to the King Power Stadium at the beginning of the 2022/23 campaign for £15 million from French outfit Reims and quickly became a key player for the former Premier League champions. Now, Faes could be on the move over the coming weeks.
TuttoMercatoWeb are also reporting that Leicester will look to get at least £15 million on any sale of Faes, breaking even on his transfer.
Faes has played 2,155 minutes for Leicester City this season, spread across 24 appearances in all competitions, including 22 in the Championship and so he has been an integral part of Maresca’s backline this term.
If the 25-year-old centre-back does leave in January, the club will need to sign a replacement and have been linked with a move for Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall in recent weeks, although this rumour has died down since the skipper returned to the squad under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
