Leeds United Keen To Sign £11.5 Million Playmaker With 56 PL Appearances

Leeds United are hoping to secure promotion back to the Premier League by the end of the season and will go big in January to achieve this, according to the latest reports.

The Peacocks will be quite busy over the coming weeks as Daniel Farke looks to bolster his squad ahead of the second half of the campaign and Leeds’ previous few results proved that work needs to be done during the winter market.

Farke’s men have been very inconsistent in recent weeks, having picked up merely two wins over the past five matches, a timeframe which also includes two losses and a draw.

After a defeat to Preston North End on Boxing Day, the Whites have dropped to fourth in the Championship and have remained eight points behind the second automatic promotion place which has been locked down by Ipswich Town.

These displays have shown that there are still deficiencies in Leeds’ squad that need to be rectified in January if Farke’s side are to successfully chase down Ipswich or even Leicester City.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Friday morning, Sam Matterface reported that Leeds are looking to add more depth in the forward line by signing Bournemouth’s David Brooks during the winter window but face competition from promotion rivals Southampton [quotes via MOT Leeds News]:

“He (Brooks) is wanted by two different teams in the Championship looking to get back to the Premier League.

“Yeah, two of the high-flyers in that division, Southampton and Leeds United.

“I’m told that Leeds are planning quite a busy January in order to ensure that they can get back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.

“Brooks hasn’t played much football this season, certainly not as much as he would’ve expected to, so I think he’ll be looking to go out and try and get some game time under his belt because, of course, Wales have got these crucial playoff games for a place at the European Championships coming up.”

Having returned from a long-term absence towards the back end of the previous campaign, Brooks has had very little game-time this term, having seen just 244 minutes of league action under Andoni Iraola, having joined the club back in 2018 for a fee of £11.5 million.

Writer’s View

This would be a sensational signing by Leeds United. There is a top-class player in David Brooks and he just needs consistent game time to bring the very best out of him once again, having made 56 Premier League appearances in total during his career, as per Transfermarkt.

Furthermore, it seems likely that the Cherries will be willing to allow the Wales international to leave on loan until the end of the season too due to how little Iraola has used him this term.
