Norwich City might struggle to keep hold of highly-regarded striker Abu Kamara amidst interest from Brentford FC and SC Freiburg, according to recent reports from TEAMTalk.
Kamara joined League One side Portsmouth FC on loan during the summer transfer window and the 20-year-old has made 25 appearances and eight goal contributions in all competitions.
Before the young forward moved from Norwich to Portsmouth in the summer, he made a big impression at Carrow Road in the 2022/23 season after scoring 13 goals in 15 Premier League 2 matches.
Towards the end of last season, Kamara was regularly included in the Canaries’ first-team squad. He also made his senior debut under David Wagner as a substitute during Norwich’s 1-0 home defeat against Sheffield United.
Kamara made two more substitute appearances before moving to Fratton Park in July. The young forward has since been an important part of John Mousinho’s setup, featuring in all of Pompey’s 19 league matches this season.
However, Kamara’s increasing game time has allowed the likes of Brentford and Freiburg to take a closer look at the talented striker.
Brentford, in particular, seems eager to bring Kamara to West London as the Premier League outfit has reportedly monitored the 20-year-old since June 2023, as reported by Football Insider.
Thomas Frank’s side though is stacked with senior attacking quality, with Bryan Mbeumo, Kevin Schade, Keane Lewis-Potter and Neal Maupay all competing up front.
Freiburg are also keeping tabs on the Kamara and the Bundesliga club could be tempted to make an offer in January. Moreover, Freiburg has given substantial playing time to younger players this season, with seven under-23 squad members making 15 or more appearances under Christian Streich, as recorded by Trasnfermarkt.
Wrtier’s View
Kamara’s impressive season at Portsmouth has ultimately given Norwich a premature decision to make on the talented youngster, who has just 18 months left of his existing contract. The Canaries could negotiate with Brentford or Freiburg or the Norfolk club will have to offer the 20-year-old a new deal.
However, for the foreseeable future, it appears likely that Kamara will remain at Portsmouth and continue to support Pompey’s promotion campaign. Alternatively, Norwich could recall Kamara and provide game time at a higher level to prove their trust in the young forward.
