Contract Update Emerges On Key Blackburn Rovers Star

Blackburn Rovers remain keen to tie down attacker Tyrhys Dolan to a new deal, but discussions have been put on hold for the time being, according to Lancashire Live.

The 21-year-old is in the final year of his current contract, although the Championship club do have the option to extend by an additional year. As such, it is seen that there is no rush to continue negotiations as the player looks to focus on his continued good form.

Dolan has been an ever-present in the Blackburn side since joining from Preston North End in 2020, making 141 appearances to date, although he struggled at the beginning of the campaign. However, he has been back in Jon Dahl Tomasson’s team in recent weeks, contributing two goals and two assists in the last six league fixtures.

Talks between the club and the forward had previously been delayed whilst the former England under-20 international was in the process of changing agency. Speaking in September, Rovers director of football Gregg Broughton addressed the situation, where he pinpointed January as the time when he expects movement to be made;

“I think we’ll know very quickly whether he will sign a new contract or not. The big difference to other players that have expired is when his deal expires in two years, he’s under 24 so we’ll be protected financially from that point of view.

“By January, the situation will be clearer. Right now, I see no dip in his commitment and his enthusiasm has been the same as it has always been. He is vital for our squad moving forward.”

The publication claims that an offer has been presented to the player, but there is an agreement that they will ‘revisit the situation in the next few months’. However, there is no panic just yet, with Dolan reportedly happy where he is and willing to remain at Ewood Park. The one-year clause in his existing deal also means that Blackburn are still in control of the scenario.

The Lancashire side currently sit 12th in the Championship and will return to action following the recent international break this weekend when they travel to Stoke City.

Blackburn have remained very calm in this situation over the last few months and were willing to wait for Dolan to change agents before starting negotiations. The attacker is still very young and is gaining regular first team football, so it is easy to see why both parties are relaxed.

Rovers have won four of their last six Championship fixtures, with the youngster playing a central role. He is right to focus on his continued good form and pick this up in the New Year.
