West Bromwich Albion have been tipped to come out on top in the race for Peterborough United’s star attacker Kwame Poku this winter, following recent reports.
TeamTalk revealed on Monday that the Posh are struggling to keep hold of Poku, with a whole host of clubs from the Championship keen to secure the 22-year-old’s signature once the January transfer window opens, including promotion-chasers West Brom, Sunderland and Ipswich Town.
Poku has had an excellent season at London Road under Darren Ferguson, scoring seven goals and recording seven assists in all competitions this season, including 12 goal contributions in the league as Peterborough push for a top-six place in the table.
The Ghana international has the third-highest number of goal contributions in the third tier this season behind Blackpool’s Jordan Rhodes and Barnsley’s Devante Cole and the playmaker was also included in The Real EFL’s League One Team of the Season for the 2023/24 campaign so far.

EFL pundit and Sheffield Wednesday legend Carlton Palmer has tipped the Baggies to be victorious in the race for Poku, but claims that a deal would depend on any prospective takeover being successful.
Speaking to Football League World, Palmer said [quotes via West Brom News]:
“Poku has registered six goals and six assists so far this season for the League One outfit, and he is only 22 and can play through the middle and down either flank.
“Carlos Corberan likes players who are versatile and can play different positions, with Daryl Dike still struggling for consistent fitness and games.
“I think Carlos is looking for other options should the proposed takeover take place, as he looks to strengthen his squad to push on for a play-off place or even automatic promotion.”

West Brom have recruited well from lower leagues in the past, having signed Brandon Thomas-Asante in 2022 for a pittance in hindsight, with the striker going on to become a first-team regular at the Hawthorns.
While signing Poku could depend on a potential takeover, this would be a tremendous acquisition for the West Midlands club as the Posh star looks primed and ready to make the step up to the Championship once more.
