In a recent interview, Leicester City loanee Victor Kristiansen has admitted to being unhappy at the King Power Stadium after joining the club from Copenhagen in January.
The fullback joined the Foxes at the start of the year for £17 million and became the most-expensive Danish Superliga departure of all-time. However, the defender didn’t get off to a great start to life in English football.
By the end of his first half-season with Leicester, the former Premier League champions were relegated down to the Championship. Brendan Rodgers, the man who signed Kristiansen in the first place, lost his job in April too.
In a recent interview with Danish outlet Ekstra Bladet, the 20-year-old admitted that he struggled to adapt to life in the East Midlands [quotes via Sport Witness]:
“I joined a dysfunctional team with a coach under pressure, who was then fired [in April]. I was in a difficult position as a young and newly acquired player, where I suddenly had to help save the club.
“I was alone and thought for a quiet moment if it is really like this to be abroad. It was hard to deal with, and it has left some scars on the soul.”
Kristiansen was sent out on loan to Bologna back in August, the Italian side managed by two-time Champions League winner Thiago Motta. The Denmark international admitted he was happy to leave Leicester City before the summer window slammed shut:
“It was definitely not what I was hoping for when I went out. That’s why I was happy that this summer we could find a solution, so I was loaned out to Bologna.”
Kristiansen also made some interesting comments about Leicester’s current head coach Enzo Maresca, revealing that the tactician’s idea to change his position to a centre-back at the beginning of the campaign was the catalyst for his loan exit:
“I noticed (the position change) when we were at training camp this summer, but missed being part of the offensive game. So I was happy that we could jointly find a solution.”
