Huddersfield Town And Championship Rivals To Battle It Out For 10-Goal League Two Star

Huddersfield Town and Swansea City are keeping tabs on Newport County’s star attacker Will Evans ahead of the January transfer window, according to TeamTalk.

The Terriers have scored the third-fewest number of goals in the Championship this season and are already deep into a relegation battle. Darren Moore is keen to add to his attacking department, with DJ Sturridge also close to signing for the club on a permanent basis after spending the last few weeks on trial with the Yorkshire club.

Meanwhile, Swansea City are hoping to keep up with the rest of the pack in the playoff race and Evans has been identified as a player who can add some depth and quality to Michael Duff’s forward line.

TeamTalk are also reporting that the Swans have made regular checks on Evans’ progress at Newport County in League Two and have been left impressed with his start to the 2023/24 campaign.

The Welshman, who can play on the flanks and as a striker, was the first player across the top 92 clubs in English football to score 10 goals this term, beating the likes of Mohamed Salah, Erling Haaland and Son Heung-Min.

In all competitions, the 26-year-old has scored 12 goals and registered one assist, with his contract at the fourth-tier outfit set to expire at the end of the current campaign.

The Ironsides risk losing their star man next summer and may be reduced to selling him when the January transfer window opens, with both Huddersfield and Swansea keen to capitalise.

The report from TeamTalk claims that there are other teams in England’s second division that have been keeping a close eye on Evans at the Welsh club but only name two.

The risk with Evans is that he has never played in the Championship before and a two-league step-up could be difficult for the forward to adapt to mid-season.

However, given his contract will expire at the end of the season, Huddersfield Town and Swansea City may be able to secure his services relatively cheaply, meaning a transfer would not be a massive financial risk for the clubs.
