Leeds United Could Struggle To Keep Hold Of ‘£50 Million’ Star Amid Premier League Interest

Leeds United are facing an uphill battle to keep hold of versatile, young star Archie Gray amid interest from Premier League trio Liverpool, Everton and Crystal Palace, according to The Daily Mail.

Gray made his debut for the Peacocks at the start of this season under Daniel Farke and has been an integral part of the side’s early push for promotion, playing in both midfield and predominantly at right-back.

However, his impressive performances have garnered interest from a number of clubs in the top flight. The Daily Mail are reporting that Leeds have slapped a price tag of between £40-50 million on Gray’s back in order to ward off suitors from the Premier League.

Furthermore, Gray’s contract expires in eighteen months so Leeds may look to sell the youth academy product or else tie his future down with a new deal.

Back in September, The Sun were the first to reveal that Palace and Everton were keeping tabs on the teenage sensation. On his exclusive Patreon, journalist Alan Nixon also stated that Leeds may be forced into selling Gray should they fail to return to the top tier as parachute payments will reduce to 45% next season.

However, Sheffield Wednesday legend Carlton Palmer has urged the 17-year-old to stay put at Elland Road [quotes via Football League World]:

“It’s always important for a young player to be getting minutes, and he’s getting that and playing at Leeds United at such a tender age. He’s unlikely to move to a Premier League club and play every week, so it’d be best to stay where you are.”

While interest from the Premier League is always tempting, particularly from a side like Liverpool who could be in the Champions League next season, Gray should remain with the Whites at least until the end of the season.

If Leeds are promoted back to the top, then the youngster will be able to play in the Premier League anyway so it’s worth sticking out until then to see where they finish in the Championship.
