Rotherham United boss Matt Taylor has admitted that he is unsure whether to recall in-form defender Peter Kioso from his Peterborough United loan spell or not.
Kioso was allowed to go on loan to the League One club in the summer after Taylor believed he was not ready to play Championship football.
The Irish defender has made 15 appearances for Posh this season and was even named the new captain after his strong performances. Peterborough currently sit fourth in the league and were on an 11-game unbeaten run in all competitions before losing 2-1 last night away at Wigan Athletic.
The Millers have had a tough start to the Championship season and are currently sitting in the relegation zone with 11 points from their opening 15 games. Injuries have also left the club short on options in defensive areas, but manager Taylor is still unsure about recalling Kioso in January.
“No, not at the moment” Taylor replied to the Rotherham Advertiser after being asked if he has considered recalling Posh’s star defender. “We felt that it was the right thing for ‘PK’ to go and play League One football and he wanted to do the same,” he added.
Despite the uncertainty over his future, Taylor did not rule out the possibility that Kioso could play for his parent club again this season.
“PK is one we’re monitoring. I’ve been to watch him this season, the staff have been to watch him too. Trust me, League One is a totally different animal to the Championship.” said Taylor.
“We’ll assess it, we’ll make a decision when it needs to be made. I can guarantee that in the next ten weeks, a lot will change in our squad,” added the Rotherham boss.

It has been a difficult start to the Championship season for Rotherham and they currently have the fourth-worst record in the division for goal difference and goals against. With an injury crisis at the back, it shouldn’t be a difficult decision to recall an in-form defender to help bolster their defence during a relegation fight.
Manager Matt Taylor has confirmed that they are looking at recalling a right back, so could also look at Jamie McCart, on loan at Barnsley who are fifth in League One, and keep Kioso with Posh for the season.
