Leeds United are keen to secure the services of Norwich City sporting director Stuart Webber, although the 39-year-old is looking to take some personal time off after completing his notice at Carrow Road.
Webber joined the Canaries in 2017 after a successful spell with Huddersfield Town and has been in his position for little over six years, overseeing two promotions back to the Premier League.
Webber was given the option to serve a one-year notice at Norwich City, after handing in his resignation back in June. However, the Norfolk-based club are set to lose the ex-Queens Park Rangers chief scout within the next fortnight, according to the latest reports.
Norwich’s Championship rivals Leeds United are hoping to sign Webber up upon leaving Carrow Road but the Peacocks may be forced to wait a little while longer as the director is keen to undergo mountain-climbing expeditions first and foremost, including a daring trip up Mount Everest.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Ben Jacobs revealed the latest news surrounding Webber’s potential switch to Elland Road.
“There’s nothing imminent at the moment with Stuart Webber. He’s going to be in demand and he is a free agent, or very soon anyway, in the next fortnight.
I believe he handed in his notice in June. He had the option to stay on for the year but has chosen to go now. And from what I understand, Webber wants to take some personal time. He is looking, believe it or not, to climb a bunch of different mountains,” Jacobs continued.
I know the Norwich fans were not happy when he announced earlier that and it got aborted in the end this plan, but he wanted to go and climb Everest, for example. So Webber is looking for some time off in the same way that Michael Edwards wanted some time off. Which is why I don’t think that there’s necessarily anything imminent.
As you say, he’s worked with Daniel Farke before, so the links are inevitable. But there’s nothing sort of firmed up between Leeds and Webber.”
Webber and Leeds head coach Daniel Farke know each other very well from the German’s four-year spell at Norwich City. Farke once heaped huge praise on the Canaries’ outgoing sporting director after the club were promoted back to the Premier League in 2021 [quotes via the Eastern Daily Press]:
“You can’t ask for a better job than what Stuart Webber has done.
“It’s always like when the wind is in your face and it’s difficult times, then he is there like a shield for the club and he helps in each and every moment.”

Webber came in for some stick last season after Norwich City finished the campaign in 13th place but, overall, he has done an immense job over the course of his six-year reign at Carrow Road.
It would be an incredible acquisition for Leeds United to sign Webber as a sporting director, especially if conquering the biggest mountain on planet Earth is on his CV.
